Pith & Wind -
Standing in the
shadow
I missed a call from Rob Harwood yesterday.
I can’t actually remember what I was
doing yesterday but it must’ve entailed
turning off my phone or leaving it unattended
for a while. Anyway, I called him back as
I was were driving back to Mt Waverley from
wherever – and before you mobile phone
wowsers object I have a hands-free device
so I can live with myself. (I saw the French
movie Sexual Chronicles of a French
Family last night with a woman using
her hands-free phone whilst driving, which
I believe was a first - using hands-free
is considered so socially daggy that we
almost never see it on film).
For those of you who don’t know, Rob’s
a free-lance sound engineer who has supplied
and operated PAs to bands and venues great

Dick's
Toolbox - Time and time again..
An event happened the
other day that made me realise that the
difference between disaster and happiness
is often very small, fortuitous and turns
on casual even subatomic decisions. It could
have made me consider the nature of time,
the possibility of multiple universes and
the combined weight of my bicycle and me.
But that seemed too hard.
Let me explain. I, acting as the trusty
companion to my cycling Lone Ranger Doug,
was half way around what we call the Clinton’s
Road circuit and approaching Smith’s
Gully where there is the eponymous and highly
recommended General Café, Bakery
and General Store. Normally we would call
in for a latte and maybe a muffin …..
or even lunch if the hour was right. However
I, for reasons which I may yet explain,
