Mike's Pith & Wind - Celebrity
O joy! I’m a celebrity again. People have phoned me and texted me that we’re on the cover of today’s EG. Well, Milesago gets a guernsey, at least. I’d gone to Choclatté earlier than usual, partly to accumulate some urine for the urine sample that I was supposed to deliver with my blood test this morning - I’d fasted (unnecessarily as it turned out) and didn’t have it in me when the nurse gave me the specimen bottle. (Nothing serious by the way, just a check up after my brush with hyperthyroidism last year). Adam was quite excited for me as we dug out the EG from inside the Sports magazine. (I think they miss a few potential readers by doing that, incidentally).
I read the article (pic), but apart from the graphics I/we didn’t rate a mention, even from Uncle Ted at Aztec. Still, I needed a bit of a celebrity rush, even if it was just a pictorial reference. The Spicks & Specks episode was good for a couple of weeks, but then that blank look that universally greets the over fifties kicked in with my erstwhile adoring public.
No doubt the build up to the Morning of the Earth concerts will generate some publicity momentum, and it might even do the band’s profile a bit of good in the process, which we might even take advantage of if we’re smart.
But, are we smart? And were we ever? I got sent a copy of an interview that Glyn Mason and I did with Stephen MacLean in 1972 for a TV show called Funky Road. I had forgotten the interview and certainly don’t remember the show, and I’m willing to bet that nobody else does either. read more

Dick's Toolbox - Terror
I dream a dark world to which I am condemned to return night after night. Never quite the same place, always unexpected in the forms it takes and the creatures that live there.
We all dream, but we don’t usually remember, for to remember we have to wake before our allotted time. I often forget these fantastic dramas played out behind my sleeping eyes, but sometimes I wake in the small but long hours before dawn. I lie looking at the trees through the high, clerestory windows hoping that the first light will not be too long coming.
There is always the dark corridor. It is not straight, there is a small sidestep half way down and the light switches are far apart, so that by the time you reach one light the last one has gone off. When you turn a light on on it does not illuminate the corridor as far as the next light switch. And the lights are always off.. read more
