A couple of weeks ago
I had a quite unpleasant dose of the runs, probably just a bout of gastro, but something I’ve not had to deal with since I was a callow, not-quite-as-hygienic-as-I-should-be youth. The effects only lasted about three days, not to mention two very uncomfortable nights, but it was a reminder of how fragile is the illusion of well being, particularly now that I’ve officially attained senior status.
It was probably a coincidence, but I’ve also recently had a couple of minor episodes of cardiac fibrillation, or arrhythmia, and have had some blood tests to determine any contributing factors, all of which adds to the general feeling of vulnerability.
It’s often said that when we’re young we feel and act as if we’re invincible. That’s probably why I so want to shake school children brazenly smoking on the footpaths of Camberwell Junction. Not to mention slap the entertainers that attempt to mask their insecurity by
