The bits of stuff that fall in the cracks between Life, Music and outrageous fortune.

I'm back!
23.7.10 - After the most draining week I can remember for quite some time the move to my 'new' home has been effected. I'm now ensconced in the pleasant-enough suburb of Mt Waverley fifteen minutes south-east of Camberwell. There's an abundance of right-angles to be savoured, but they're largely swamped by an abundance of CRAP waiting to be put in its place or dumped. Foxtel has been connected and today my Internet was restored, so the crap can wait. Hooray!

Ross Wilson's CD launch
21.7.10 - I was contemplating my third trip to the new house yesterday when I noticed on Outlook that I'd been invited to Ross' CD launch. I just had time to drop off the load and change before heading into town to find the Toff in Town, the venue for the launch. I've not been to the Toff before and was misled by the sound of people chatting into believing the restaurant on the first floor was the Toff - and met Eris O' Brien on his way out. It was a happy meeting as we have unfinished business co-writing some songs together, and we agreed to stay in contact now that he's back from his exile in Tasmania.
Ross appeared on stage with the basic line-up for the first set and I drifted back to the bar to exchange my drink card

for a glasss of bubbly. Through nobody's fault this process took a long-ish time during which I was bumped into by a number of people, including Daryl , who had a possy near the back of the room to where I eventually gravitated. The back of the room is a bit of a bass trap, so after the intermission I re-joined the throng near the front, by which time the band's numbers had been swelled with the introduction of guitarists Stewart Fraser and Eric McCusker. I actually loved the whole show, but the musical highlight for me just happened to be Eris' song, Land of Contentment. Maybe it's an omen.

Happy Birthday to me - again! Choclatté goes mad..
And so it begins..
17.7.10 -
It was actually Choclatté's Adam Stevens' 50th birthday today, but his wife Keri was so shocked that she'd missed my birthday she gave me a cupcake festooned with a sparkler (pic) by way of a belated celebration. I interpreted it as encouragement to continue my moving house activities - I guess I'm about a third of the way through. Bill very kindly popped down from Strathie today to lend a hand with the big ticket items like the fridge and the washing machine and bro' Dick is interrupting his long service leave to lend a hand on Monday. I expect the process to be concluded just in time for the Friday deadline. There maybe a short break in website transmissions while Telstra and I sort out the fine print..

A visit from Edwin Mitchell
14.11.10 -
Bastille Day 2010 has been notable for a couple of reasons. It was the second consecutive day I've had Edwin Mitchell (pic 1) over on what was most certainly the last recording project undertaken here in Camberwell, because tonight I received an e-mail from my new landlord advising me that my new
Mt Waverley home is now ready for occupation. Let joy be only slightly constrained! I was becoming concerned that the move was going to have to be executed in two stages, but as of tomorrow I can start consummating my first move for twenty four years, or thereabouts.
Incidentally, I also received an e-mail from Hugh (Hoo) McSpedden advising me of his participation in the Gertrude St Projection Festival 7.00-ish to 11.00-ish nightly till this coming Sunday at The Brooklyn Arts Hotel, 50 George St (twixt Gertrude St & Victoria Parade) I'm gonna try and make it.

An example from Jon Cattapan's exhibition painted after accompanying Australian forces' night patrols in Timor
Viridian Eye
10.7.10 - Supposedly the tenants in my 'new' abode are vacating today, but that's unlikely with the latest mail telling me the situation remains unresolved and I'm getting edgier by the day as the prospect of a move in two stage becomes more likely. An invitation from Annita Furey to visit to the Sutton Gallery to check out Jon Cattapan's latest 'Viridian Eye' exhibition seemed to be a pleasant distraction, so after dumping some more (electronic) stuff at the Camberwell tip yesterday I picked up Annita and we trotted on down. The bigger works (pic) are from a collection commissioned by the Australian War Memorial and are the result of a visit to Timor Leste (East Timor?) in 2008. There are similarities with previous works if you've seen other Cattapan shows, although as the title suggests the lush green backgrounds are a departure. The show ends on the 24th of this month.
Last night I was whisked out to Little Vietnam in Victoria St Richmond by the Drs Sellers and daughter Anya and we spent a very pleasant evening eating and yelling pleasantries at each other before retiring to my run-down igloo with a litre of gelati to watch a couple of episodes of QI, which was a revelation to the TV-less Sellers. And now, back to reality..
