PC Doctor saves the day - again!
24.1.09 - I noticed the music PC was starting to struggle the night before Allan Alderson's session (see below) and was startled to discover I had less than ten gigs memory left! I contacted James (The Shepparton PC Doctor) Feldman (pic) and happily he was due in town yesterday and promised to drop in to AMS with an enormous new hard drive in hand.
It was another of those uncomfortably hot, blowy days yesterday. I'd spent most of the morning on trams picking up CDs from Aztec and was over it and James had been on another job and was keen to get home, but the transplant was effected in good time and James took away a bottle of my Molly Award pinot to sample over dinner.

Accidental Music Studio running hot!
21.1.09 - It's been hot the last few days in Melbourne and late in the afternoons it becomes almost unbearable in the AMS studio, but you can't stop the music and work has proceeded apace despite the discomfort. Anyway, the last couple of days have been quite a deal of fun - Allan Alderson (pic) has been realising a long held ambition to record a version of Some Good Advice, which was facilitated by way of a birthday gift from his sister who e-mailed me from Switzerland of all places. (Jeez! I just got sidetracked by a tele-researcher asking about my newspaper reading habits and hung up to hear my hard-boiled eggs exploding on the stove!) Meanwhile, Edwin Mitchell returns tomorrow to finish off his tracks.

15.1.09 -
It was when I missed the second tram in a row I decided to hang the expense and drive into town, pick up Dick and Iain Ross (pics) and head to Docklands to find a passing fair restaurant. We found the Medici without too much trouble and settled down to an evening of chat and idle boasting as befits gentlemen of our vintage

AMS activities
12.1.09 -
While the band impatiently awaits its first gig of the year, I haven't been entirely idle - nor has the AMS studio. Last week we hosted a couple of clients - and they're coming back for more this week! The first was my guitar student's band (pic) and they put down a track with a view to putting down at least three more this Thursday. You can see it was very cramped - and next time we'll have a drum kit to deal with!
On Friday I had Edwin Mitchell over, who's a music teacher and a long-time Spectrum fan from Tweed Heads, and we put down one of his compositions - he's coming back as well! All this activity has galvanised me and I'm now making some progress on the second EP - hooray!

Cometh the hour, cometh the man..
6.1.09 -
You will surely be as sick as I am of the shenanigans being perpetrated by my recalcitrant sewer. It was on Christmas Day, no less, that it decided to boilover at the fenceline and spew a steady stream of questionable liquid into the gutters. Seeing as the problem appeared to be on the fenceline, I decided to chance my luck with the water company. If nothing else, they'd be able to sort out whose responsibility it was. I rang them this morning and was told that a bloke would be out within two hours. To my surprise, a bloke (pic) did turn up within the specified two hours and immediately began reaming the pipes, with the happy result that my flow is now restored. O happy day! Mind you, I've been here before, but I think that this time the problem is finally fixed. Now to find somewhere else to live..

Thank you, Ross, for a lovely NY's Eve party
New Year's Eve at the Ryans'
1.1.09 -
The Ryans very thoughtfully opened their doors to the assorted riff-raff they've accumulated over the years, which, not surprisingly, turned out to be a fairly homogeneous lot. I managed to photograph just about everybody who turned up, but time is ticking away for the New Year already, so I'll spare you the results. The pic (left) was taken at the precise moment 2009 clocked in and shows former Ross Ryan protegé Rob Draper, (centre) no doubt seeing a vision of the New Year arriving, flanked by a thankfully beardless Ross (left) and an equally facially denuded James (PC Doctor) Feldman. Ross showed us rushes of the clip for his new single, I'm Going Back To Queensland, which looks like fun!
