The wrong Rudd - part two
31.8.07 - Dear Mike, I was walking past my local newsagency the other night when I spied the attached newspaper cage thingo. Now whether or not you attend strip clubs is your own personal affair, but I don't see that it should be front page news. Surely even pop stars like yourself are entitled to a little bit of privacy.
Ian Marks - editor of Foffle.
As my political counterpart Kev's profile rises, so I get more and more mail like this about the less savoury aspects of his upwardly mobile career, (pic left), as though it reflects on me or the hapless division of Rudds I represent. Or pop stars for that matter. Incidentally, I should think Kev would've actually welcomed this bit of publicity, helping to counter, as it does, the alliteratively popular perception of him as a pruriently prescriptive Sunday school teacher. I don't buy it, by the way. Just wait till Xavier Rudd hits the headlines for whatever reason..

Matt Croke's raring to go..
Chants R&B and other bits
28.8.07 -
On Saturday, after briefly catching up with the Breakaways' Dave Orams, I picked up Chris and popped on over to Chants' axeman Matt Croke's place in Boronia to discuss a possible set list for our November reunion in NZ. We spent some time listening to the Chants' CD and decided that we may as well aim to do most of the songs on the album, as it would seem we're going to have to do an hour or so at the first show in Christchurch at least. Matt (pic left) has a selection of guitars he's modified over the years and encouraged me to have a noodle on them - I don't know what guitar I'm going to be using in NZ, but I think in the interests of period authenticity it'll probably be a Gibson or an equivalent.
Last night Bill and I went out on the town with The Basement Discs' Rod and Suzanne, Aztec's Gil Matthews, and Mark Letten, whom we've not met before, but who's been an avid follower of Spectrum since the seventies. A lovely night was had by all too - I'll have some more interesting info later..

Mouse over blurred Dick..

Lunch with Dick etc.
24.8.07 - On Wednesday I had to take the van over to Chadstone to look at a faulty oil pressure switch, so it was an ideal opportunity to take various modes of public transport into town and meet with bro' Dick for lunch. I thought I might drop in on Ted at Aztec on the way, but fortunately I missed my stop - fortunately because I got a text from Ted later saying that they've moved! Dick was rather pressed for time, so we went to a sushi joint just down the road from the Argus Building where I took the pic (left) of Dick trying to remove his glasses before I took the shot. All is vanity.
Did I tell you that a few weeks ago I had my right ear syringed after a couple of days walking round with it blocked with water? That's the good part. A couple of days after that I did a protracted mixing session using headphones - and blew the mid-bottom frequencies out of my right ear. I've been to an EN&T specialist. As I suspected, it's permanent. I'm over the distress now and into the annoyed phase..

I was mistaken..
21.8.07 -
After my rant against too much choice in this month's P&W, it seems the Camberwell Safeway is restoring its cosmopolitan 24 hour service. Apparently the service was only temporarily curtailed because of the refurbishment I mentioned. It's funny though - you should never get too attached to those occasional magical discoveries in the supermarket aisles. The International Food section (how cosmopolitan is that!) boasted a selection of English jams that were both delicious and in sensible containers. No more. I feel particularly narked. I found the damn stuff, I exercised my choice, and now the very same faceless people who brought this delight into my drab life have peremptorily vanquished it from the shelves. Bugger.

I'm back!
20.8.07- I've forgotten why I wanted to grow my hair long in the first place - I think it was for the film clip initially, (see the Rocket Girl clip on the Videos page) and then I thought it might be de rigueur for the Chants' reunion mooted for November, but then I just couldn't stand it anymore! So this morning on the way home from Choclatté, I dropped in to the average Joe barber in the Camberwell Arcade and had it hacked off by a bloke with bad breath - for half the price of my regular hairdresser. No fucking around with hair washing and vibrating chairs - just the haircut thanks. So I'm back, with an even more generous allowance of forehead than I remember, and I'm a little chilly round the ears, but I'm pleased that I won't have to wrestle for half an hour every second day drying and styling my uncooperative and ultimately unflattering post-menopausal hair.

Mudmen here today - gone tomorrow
5.8.07 - Tony Nirta and Kate Chinnick showed up at Spectrum's last St Andrews' gig and gave Bill and I invitations to the All Together Now exhibition at the artists' colony at Cottles Bridge. Bill rolled up to the opening on Friday night (apparently), but I waited till yesterday arvo (Saturday) to dawdle up and to have a gawk. Tony's been resident at Cottles Bridge for the best part of a year, but is having to zip back to Adelaide this week to sort out his situation before returning to a house he's buying in Diamond Creek I've been an admireer of Tony's work for some time now, and he and Kate have collaborated extremely
effectively in some music videos for the show, which they generously took the time to play to me. I'm looking forward to getting some musical fragments from Tony to work on - although I have to confess I've got fragments of my own accumulated over the years awaiting my attention. Tony's an inspiring person - maybe some of his energy and enthusiasm will rub off on me.. Check Tony's MySpace site
