Mike's
Christchurch photo album
1)
Hi, I'm Mike. I'll be your guide for the next 33 frames.
2)
This is me, walking the city with my cameraphone
3) This is
looking up
in the new Canterbury
Art Gallery. Cool building too, even though it was designed by an
Aussie..
4)
The facade of the Art Gallery successfully obfuscates the basic box
design. 5) Attention to detail with a water-
fall along one of the side walls
6) The mighty
Avon River 7) Another view from the banks of this meandering midget
8)
A charming feature of the Avon is that you can be punted to and fro
for no particular reason 9) A view down a corridor in the Provincial
Chambers. One day I'll get in to see the auditorium. 10) Facade-ism
- an oft-repeated but futile device to preserve Christchuch's architectural
heritage.
11)
The fog rolled in as Tony and I headed to Tony's work 12) To be used
only in emergencies. You can smoke it,
too. Tony's car has all the mod cons - including fluorescent tubes
underneath the chassis and a cavalry horn.
13)
Tony's study door announces his particular proclivities 14) The view
from Tony's window
is arresting enough - and then one notices the decorative motif..
15) The
Old West comes dead or alive on these walls! 16) These badges are
the real thing - no shit!
17) I'm
sure this happened to me when I was a toddler. Could explain a couple
of things. This little girl is transfixed as a
shop assistant dresses a shop dummy. 18) Yes, yes, Captain Contra-deal.
Flight Centre did my bookings.. 19) I didn't
actually know that it was New Zealand Music Month until I saw this..
20) The
seafood chowder I had at Sumner's On The Beach restaurant. Check the
plump mussels and weep! 21)
Sound check at Minnie Bagoes. Note the unnaturally high stage and
more-than-adequate PA.
22) My
favourite part of the Botanical gardens was the spongy topographical
bark of the giant whatever trees. 23) My old
school, Christ's College. Condell's House, on the top left corner
of the Quad, has been preserved for some reason. 24)
The Lynch Gate - so called because boys used to go through to the
Gardens to eat their lynch..
25)
Another view of Christ's. The top floor of the middle building used
to house the art rooms, where I whiled away
many a lazy day. OK, week. OK, year.. 26) Where the infamous underground
lavatories used to be in Cathedral Square.
27) The
location of the Stage Door.. 28) but they've changed the name of the
lane. It used to be Hereford Lane 29) Looking
from the transept of the Cathedral - that's the view I used to have
as a chorister.
30) These
pretty windows are new since I was there. 31) That's my CD! 32) Tony
suddenly
realises that he's in the Crowne Plaza. We met Jan and the kids later
at the Lone Star, which
has become a bit of a tradition, and where one traditionally overeats.
32) The
Lone Star is obviously having an identity crisis and is
trying to be all things to all people. 33) Just down stream from
Tony's place in Lincoln. I'm talking paradise. |
