September
The bits of stuff that fall in the cracks between Life, Music and Outrageous Fortune.

1) A native thrush nest and eggs at the McClelland Gallery 2) Lunch was nice too
A blissful weekend - apart from a bit of a scare..
22.9.13 - Maria and I popped up to the Rudds' place in North Warrandyte on Friday night in response to their kind invitation to do exactly that. As well as the splendid wine we had a sumptuous meal created almost solely by bro' Dick and I managed to catch the essential moments of the Hawthorn v Geelong game so all in all it was a splendid night, but we'd only got back from Canberra the previous day so perhaps I should've exercised a bit of restraint, particularly in the area of wine consumption because when I got home I soon realised all was not well in the atrial fibrillation dept - and to my disquiet the problem carried over into the next day. Is this the moment to finally face up to the fact that things are less carefree than they used to be?
Anyway, I eventually got over it and today we lurched out to the McClelland Gallery in Lang Warrren because Maria had spotted there was exhibition of birds' nests there (The Art of Birds) and some artists' responses to them. I'd never been to the McClelland Gallery, probably because its known as a sculpture park + gallery and I've never managed to respond positively to sculpture, but I certainly enjoyed the birds' 'art' (pic 1) and the lunch (pic 2) so I was able to cope with my continuing indifference to almost all the sculptures on display.

Bernd Rohrmann beams with pride after another MMEFF
Bernd Rohrmann's MMEFF
15.9.13 - It's a tradition by now, but one I almost missed out on this year given the timing. Bernd Rohrmann (pic) is persistent however and wasn't about to simply accept my initial non-response and so last Wednesday Maria and I met with the irrepressible professor in North Carlton and he explained his plans for his latest MMEFF - typically leaving out some crucial details just to tantalise us.
On Friday evening we arrived at St Annes restaurant and met with our fellow diners, Mark the javelin-throwing botanist and Simon the IT guy and enjoyed a unique presentation of music and literature in the form of readings from Celeste Walters' A Certain Music interspersed with Patrick's selection of Beethoven pieces. Very interesting..

1) Mum and dad - who is this weird guy? 2) I'm happy now I'm playing with dad..
The Robbos' visit
4.9.12 -
It's strange I suppose, but I've never had the Robbos over to my place for a meal. Well, perhaps it's not that strange - I didn't really have a lot to offer food-wise after baked beans. Since Maria's been in town it's been a different story though, so last Sunday we had the Robbos over for dinner here at Mt Waverley. Young Keaton was the star of the night of course and even showed signs of getting used to me holding him. (pic 1)
