And, what is it generally with the proliferation of road signs? The recent exercise in Melbourne with the introduction of forty kilometre school zones borders on criminal stupidity. (It’s a long story). I recently heard of a very interesting experiment they’re trialling in London, which I believe originated in Holland, called the Naked Road. I’ll check the Net, but I believe there’s to be a stretch of road that has no markings on the road itself, and no signage. I believe from previous European trials that the immediate result is not chaos, but rather drivers slowing down and behaving cautiously – with, unamazingly, a corresponding reduction in accidents. I dunno. I think all the traffic signs in the suburbs could be replaced with just the one, saying: USE YOUR BRAINS. There again, that might be asking a bit much.
