Mike's
Pith & Wind - Depression
This doesn’t relate to Hess specifically,
but his bizarre suicide (another media tautology like ‘freak
accident’?) has had me considering the ‘Life, the Universe
and Everything’ equation on a daily basis ever since. (And
it was bizarre, anyway).
When I first heard the news I was groping around pathetically in
the dark solitude of my own threadbare existence - as usual. Trying
to assimilate Hess’ final obscene gesture, I wondered if the
little jester (hah!) had been simply overwhelmed by intimations
of his own mortality. I just saw an interview with a fit-looking
seventy-year old Michael Caine, and he had some very positive things
to say about getting older, so while getting depressed about it
all is understandable, it’s not the end of the world.
Mind you, that’s easy to say when you’re not depressed.

Depression

depression, and the incident I’m about to describe cannot
be compared to yer actual (clinical) depression, I once had an anxiety
attack that landed me briefly in hospital, but which changed my
attitude in a positive way.
It was in the Ariel (mark ii) days, (’74 – ’75?),
just before we were due to leave for the UK for the first time.
